TECHNOLOGY INVENTORY
When selecting hardware to fit the technology plan, committee members should realize that the equipment in this area can become outdated very quickly. Since our district does not have an overwhelming surplus of money, committee members should select hardware that will meet the district needs for at least the next five years. For this reason, it was important to conduct an audit of current equipment and to initiate a plan to purchase hardware that can be easily upgraded.
Committee members will want to research possible educational discounts for hardware purchases. In addition, they should seek bids from local vendors, who will often offer a more affordable cost and more efficient, reliable support. Purchasing hardware in large quantities can often guarantee better pricing as well. Warranties are equally as important, as committee members should review the warranty limitations on their current equipment. It is recommended that our district never purchase technology equipment with less than a three-year warranty. In addition, the district will want to buy computers that are comparable to one another in specifications so that parts can be interchanged and that upgrading will be more easily accomplished.
