The 2017-18 school year may be months away, but Enid Public Schools officials are preparing now to provide the best experience possible for all students.
Elementary pre-enrollment forms will be sent home Monday with all four-year-old through fourth-grade students. They must return their completed pre-enrollment forms by April 28 in order to reserve a place at their home school site for next year.
According to Randy Rader, Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education, accurate pre-enrollment numbers are critical to manage class sizes across the district, which is especially important during difficult financial times.
“As Oklahoma’s budget shortfall continues to impact Enid Public Schools and other districts across the state, it is important that we plan very carefully for next year,” Rader said. “By balancing class sizes, we are not only maximizing district dollars, but we are also ensuring that every child has equitable services and the best learning environment possible.”
If families do not return the pre-enrollment paperwork by April 28, Rader said it could be necessary for the student to attend a school other than his or her home site next year.
“We will do whatever we can to accommodate the needs of families and students,” Rader said, “however, class sizes will determine whether or not they can be placed at their home school after the April 28 deadline. By returning the forms on time, families can rest easy that their school plans for next year are in place. It is good for the district and good for the student for parents to complete this process now.”
Any student who does not return pre-enrollment forms by the April 28 deadline will be required to re-enroll by visiting the EPS Welcome Center at 500 S. Independence after June 5. Class sizes will determine what schools are available for the student to attend.
Students who will attend the middle schools and high school have already pre-enrolled for next year.
Four-year-old enrollment is being accepted at the EPS Welcome Center weekdays from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-3:30 p.m. Space is limited.
Kindergarten enrollment for those not currently in a four-year-old program will begin April 28 at the Welcome Center, weekdays from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-3:30 p.m.
Those interested in applying for an intra-district transfer should complete the transfer form, as is required annually.
