About Enid Public Schools
Enid Public Schools believes that quality teachers play the most important role in a child’s education, second only to involved parents and guardians. Every child deserves a highly effective, caring educator in the classroom. The district has continually worked to ensure it offers a compensation/benefits package that exceeds the state minimum, continues to be the best in Garfield County, and is competitive across the state. We also strive to create a family environment where all teachers and support staff members feel valued and appreciated for the important work that they do each day. They are the heart and soul of the district.
Opportunities Through Enid Public Schools
The EPS certified compensation package exceeds the state minimum schedule by an average of $2,400 per step. Unlike many Oklahoma school districts, EPS pays the employee’s retirement contribution on his or her behalf. The State of Oklahoma pays 100% of the employee’s health insurance premium (valued at $615/month), and employees have the opportunity to add dependents, life, dental and/or vision at an additional cost. If they do not take health insurance through the district, they receive $69.71 per month in additional salary.
If they wish, employees can also contribute to a 403(B) savings plan, purchase supplemental policies such as cancer care or disability, and/or participate in the Section 125 cafeteria plan, which can result in substantial tax savings for childcare and medical expenses.
Teachers new to EPS who are certified and teach in the following hard-to-find areas are eligible for a $2,000 one-time recruitment stipend: secondary math, secondary science, secondary foreign language and special education.
New Teacher Training
EPS offers a paid two-day new teacher orientation each August that provides first-class training for new employees in the areas of technology, instructional best practices, classroom management and more. The orientation allows new members of the team to hit the ground running and to have access to district resources when students enter their classrooms about two weeks later.
New Teacher Mentor Program
EPS provides all new teachers with a mentor teacher who helps them and offers additional support and guidance throughout the year. The Oklahoma State Department of Education has selected the EPS mentoring program as a model example to share with other districts across the state. EPS developed the program collaboratively with the Enid Education Association.
EPS provides 1:1 devices for all students and teachers, including Chromebooks and iPads. Every EPS classroom also has a SMARTBoard for instruction. District technology is available thanks to the generosity of local voters, the EPS Foundation, and local businesses.
Rewards & Recognitions
EPS recognizes excellence and hard work through a number of recognition programs. Staff members at each building select a Teacher of the Year annually, and these honorees advance as finalists for EPS Teacher of the Year, which we announce each December during the Education Celebration.
Enid teachers are blessed to have tons of community support, with more than $1,600 up for grabs each month through employee recognition programs sponsored by K/H Financial, Dan and Karen Randall, TPI Staffing and EPS.
The district also recognizes employees who demonstrate excellence with its most prestigious honor, the EPS challenge coin, which is updated annually with a new design.
EPS encourages lifelong learning and continuous growth – for students and for team members. Teachers have the opportunity to attend professional development workshops throughout the year. While many require travel, the district strives to provide first-class professional development opportunities on-site. We also have four instructional coaches who offer regular training and provide in-classroom support to those who may need assistance with specific lessons or techniques.
Professional Learning Communities
EPS is a PLC (Professional Learning Communities) district. PLC schools promote a collaborative, team-based environment. In addition to planning time, each school dedicates time for PLC meetings where teachers can plan and work together, while sharing their expertise to help improve student success throughout the building.
The Enid Public School Foundation provides more than $30,000 annually to EPS classrooms through its Grants-to-Teachers program. Many teachers receive thousands of dollars each year to implement new and innovative instructional activities. Additionally, EPSF selects teacher recipients each year to support through scholarships while they are obtaining their graduate degrees.
EPS employees and their families receive free admission to all district events, including athletic games. Flu shots and other immunizations are offered annually, and discount memberships to the Denny Price Family YMCA are available.
