November 27, 2020 – The following is all important information – please read everything carefully. Thank you!
Garfield County is reported to have 132 cases per 100,000 people today. According to the decision-making model recommended by the State Board of Education that EPS is using, this means our county continues to be in level red on the OSSBA map. Our district plan states that we will implement distance/virtual learning for two weeks as of the Friday the numbers indicate our county is in level red. Therefore, we will continue with distance/virtual learning when we return from Thanksgiving break on November 30. Again, due to the high level of COVID-19 cases in our county and per our board-approved plan, we will have distance/virtual learning November 30 through December 11.
As long as Garfield County remains in the Red Level, EPS buildings and campuses will not be available for public use or extracurricular activities. Once Garfield County reverts back to the Orange Level, some varsity level extracurricular activities may resume (with appropriate limitations implemented).
About Distance Learning
Our team worked very hard this summer to prepare for this school year, including the possibility that distance learning would be temporarily necessary. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have questions about this process. If you do not have access to appropriate technology or the internet, please contact the EPS Information Technology Department at (580) 366-7070. If there are items at your child’s school that you need to retrieve, please call the school site to schedule a time to safely pick those items up.
Please note: EPS will be in communication with families regarding when students may return to school for in-person instruction. Our plan states that if our county is in level red as noted by the model the state board of education is using, that automatically puts our district in distance/virtual learning for two weeks. As it stands right now, the earliest date for in-person instruction would be Monday, December 14.
There is nothing more important to Enid Public Schools than the safety and health of our students and staff. We appreciate your cooperation and support.
